JPMorgan has brought its JPM Coin deposit token to Ethereum for institutional clients, giving them another public blockchain for moving dollar deposits. The bank’s announcement, reported by The Block on Oct. 19, expands the token beyond Base, where it launched in November 2025.
JPM Coin, also called JPMD, represents existing deposits held at JPMorgan. A deposit token is a digital record of money held at a bank. The token lets eligible clients transfer those deposits on a blockchain, rather than sending a conventional bank payment.
What can clients do with JPM Coin on Ethereum?
Approved institutional clients can use JPMD for peer-to-peer transfers across Ethereum and Base, according to Kinexys, JPMorgan’s blockchain division. The transfers take place within the Ethereum Virtual Machine ecosystem, the shared technical environment used by Ethereum and compatible networks.
Ledger Insights reported that clients can transfer tokenized JPMorgan deposits across the two networks around the clock. The move gives JPMD a presence on Ethereum’s main network as well as Base, a network built on Ethereum technology.
Why did JPMorgan add Ethereum?
Kinexys said Ethereum’s existing liquidity and tokenized assets made it a natural next public blockchain for JPMD, The Block reported. Liquidity means how easily an asset can be bought, sold or transferred. The expansion puts JPMorgan’s deposit token on a network where other tokenized financial assets are already available.
The bank also cited the scale of its Kinexys platform: more than $4 trillion in cumulative transactions and an average daily volume of $7 billion. Those figures cover the platform’s services overall; they do not measure JPMD transfers on Ethereum.
The Ethereum launch adds another route for institutional clients to move bank deposits on public blockchains. JPMorgan has not disclosed transaction volumes for JPMD on Ethereum, so the launch’s use by clients is not yet clear.
